In IELTS you get 2 writing tasks. 1st is to explain a graph, chart or a data table. 2nd task is to write an essay on a given topic. These 2nd task topics are always argumentative. Most of the time, end of the topic you will see a line like “give your opinion on this”, or “do you agree on this?” something like that. So what you have to do is talk about the both sides in 2nd and 3rd paragraph and give your opinion in 4th paragraph.
For an example, get a simple essay topic like “prevention is better than cure, do you agree on this? Or not? (You can get the essay written on this topic from my blog, soon)
In the first paragraph you should give a little introduction about the topic. Basically about three four lines.
Then in the 2nd paragraph, talk about “+” points for the side that you personally think you should support. In this case, if you think cure is better than prevention, talk about why cure is better. Keep in mind; you should talk about “why cure is better”, not about “why I think cure is better”. Use only the last paragraph to give your opinion
Then use the next paragraph to talk about “why prevention is better than cure”. Again, this not the place to tell your opinion. Talk about the topic in general. Not from your point of view.
Then in last paragraph, talk about why “you” think cure is better instead of prevention. Use only this paragraph to give your opinion.
If you writing the essay supporting the other idea, in this case, if you think prevention is better, switch places of 2nd and 3rd paragraph
